Rather than a confining restraint, God’s perfect law — the law of liberty — is the law that brings freedom. God’s way, though it’s a hard road, leads to life. The chains of sin fall away. Doers of the Way know that salvation comes through faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection, not . Paul’s purpose for writing the book of Galatians, scholars believe around A.D. 49, was to reveal that Paul’s apostleship was from Jesus Christ and not from men. But Paul’s real emphasis was that salvation is not works oriented and that the Galatians liberty should not be used as an excuse to continue in sin.

His righteousness is ours by faith alone, and the authenticity of our faith is displayed in that we are concerned to live in a way that will be approved by the “law of liberty (v. 12). This “law of liberty” is the “royal law” (v. 9), or the law of God as fulfilled by Christ. As good as the law is, it is no match for the destructive power of sin, which turns even the good law to serve its purpose (Ro. ). Our only hope for living up to the "righteous requirements of the law" (Ro. ) is to be transformed from within. Second, life under the law becomes self-dependent.

Now you can live free from the control of sin and the hard-to-keep demands of the Law. Key Points: Liberty through Jesus. Jesus came to liberate those under the Law and the lost (sinners). It is sin which gives death its power, and it is the Law which gives sin its strength.
